In early 2000, I decided that I wanted to put together a game for Games Day and Salute based on the Warhammer rules. After discussions with other gamers, we decided on a demonstration game based upon a night goblin attack on an underground dwarf stronghold. Imaginations went into overdrive - loads of dramatic scenery, caves, tunnels, rivers of lava etc! Unfortunately, along came Lord of the Rings and, with it, the Mines of Moria game featured in White Dwarf, so not wanting to look like we were copying the idea it was back to the drawing board!

Luckily, some years before, I had adapted an Avalon Hill board game called Circus Maximus for 25mm ancient miniatures and I was sure that with a little dusting off and tweaking, it would be ideal for Warhammer chariots. The chariot theme would be perfect given the rumours of a forthcoming GW Tomb King army at the centre of which were bound to be hordes of the two-wheeled beasties! Ah if only life was so simple!
